These pictures have been cropped from larger pictures that can be seen on the PRICE LIST. Unless stated otherwise all our radiators are supplied with their own feet.

This page deals with different radiator styles, heights, number of columns and sections.  Paint finishes have not been included in this page, but you can find out more about paint finishes on the page PAINT FINISHES.

The heat output of a radiator relates to its surface area, so a radiator that has many thin sections could give out the same amount of heat as a radiator with fewer sections that are fatter.  6 column radiators are deeper than 4 column radiators

Style, then, comes down to your own preference and the size of the area into which you wish to fit a radiator.

A section is an upright piece. The more sections that a radiator has, the longer it will be.  The example radiator above has 6 sections.

COLUMN RADIATORS

6, 4 and 2 column radiators

Columns are the number of upright columns in each section and in Column radiators the columns are essentially tubular.

A side-view of a radiator will indicate whether it is a 2 column, 4 column or a 6 column radiator.

Or a mammoth 9 column as shown here on the right

There are 2 column radiators that are not referred to as 2 columns, nor single columns referred to as single columns, these are generally referred to by their style and shape, ie Princess, Duchess or School.

PRINCESS & DUCHESS

'Princess' and 'Duchess' were names for styles of radiator made by various cast iron radiator companies.  These descriptions are very much a style description and not a strict specification name.  Therefore, there are some design variations in Duchess and Princess radiators made by different manufacturers from years gone by.  That, in itself, can add an element of uniqueness to your radiators.
